Doxycycline (INN)
Composition: Doxycycline (hyclate) 100mg; excipient q.s 1 ml
Pharmaceutical form: Oral solution
Target species: Poultry (broilers) and swine
Indications for use:
Poultry (broilers): Treament of Colibacilloisis, CRD, Mycoplasmosis caused by the germs before mentioned sensitive to doxycycline.
Swine: Treatment of respiratory tracts diseases caused by germs sensitive to doxycycline. The main bacterial pathogens responsible of respiratory diseases of pigs are Pasteurella Multocida, Bordetella bronchiseptica and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. The two first species are the organisms mainly responsible of atrophic rhinitis. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Pasteurella Multocida are related with porcine enzootic pneumoniae.
Posology and method of administration:
- Poultry (Broilers): 0.5 – 1 ml DOXINYL/liter of drinking water per day (equivalent to 50 – 100 mg Doxycycline/ liter of drinking water per day, for 3 – 5 days.
- Swine: 1ml DOXINYL/10 kg body weight per day (equivalent to 10 mg Doxycycline/kg body weight per day), for 5 days.
Medicated water should be the only drinking source.
ORAL ROUTE IN DRINKING WATER.
Provided the dosage form and that the water consumption depends on the clinical condition of the animal, for an adequate dosage, concentration of the antimicrobial agent will be adjusted taking into consideration the daily water consumption.
Contraindications:
Undesirable effects (frequency and seriousness): Allergic reactions and photosensitivity may appear, as for all tetracyclines. Digestive alterations by intestinal dysbiosis may appear in very long-term treatments.
Overdose: not described
Interaction with other medicaments and other form of interaction: Absorption of doxycycline may be diminished with the presence of calcium, iron, magnesium or aluminium in the diet. It is recommended to avoid administration in conjunction with antacids, kaolin and preparations containing iron.
Special precautions for use: In view of any infectious process it is recommended the bacteriological confirmation of the diagnostic and the performance of a sensitivity test of the bacteria responsible for the process. Administration in oxidized places should be avoided.
Withdrawal time: Poultry and swine: 7 days
Storage conditions: The medicinal product should be stored in its original package, protected from the light at a temperature not above 250C.
Presentations: Containers of 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 1liter and 5 liters
Shelf-life: The shelf-life of the medicinal product is 3 years from the manufacturing date. The shelf-life of the solution after reconstitution is 24 hours.
