Special precautions for use
Special precautions for use in animals: Use the veterinary product (colistin) in broilers as required by CE Regulation 1177/2006 of the European Commission and by national legislation that implements its contents. Due to variability (time, geographical) in susceptibility of bacteria for Colistin, bacteriological sampling and susceptibility testing are recommended. The misuse of the product may increase the prevalence of bacteria resistant to Colistin and may decrease the effectiveness of treatment with other antibiotics of the polymyxins, due to possible cross-resistance.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the medicinal product to animals: Use protective gear when handling the product, i.e. protective clothing, gloves and mask; do not inhale, avoid contact with skin and eyes. In the event of accidental contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation persists, consult a doctor. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling the product; wash your hands after use. Persons known to be hypersensitive to colistin or its excipients must avoid contact with the veterinary medical product.
Use during pregnancy and lactation: No negative effects on reproductive system are known. The antibiotic is not embryo-toxic, teratogenic and mutagenic.
Interactions with other veterinary medicinal products and other forms of interaction: It develops cross-resistance with Polymyxin B.
Overdose: There are no known symptoms from overdose. Do not exceed recommended doses.
Incompatibilities: Do not mix with other medicinal products
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE WHEN DISPOSING OF UNUSED MEDICINAL OR WASTE PRODUCTS: All unused medicinal products or waste produced by the latter must be disposed of in accordance with local laws and handed over to the responsible waste collection centers for unused or expired medicinal products.
